Opposite of a Suicide Note turns one this month! 🥳🎉🍾

Join us for an immersive 75-minute writing workshop, Tender is the Flesh: Writing Around the Wound, and an intimate book talk as we reflect on a year of poetry, survival, and storytelling. Register for the event below!

SUNDAY, MARCH 30TH | 2-4:30pm
📍 La Gente Art Gallery
2478 N Murray Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53211

✍🏾 Writing Workshop | 2 - 3:15pm
Writing about our most vulnerable truths can be difficult—but we don’t have to do it alone. In this writing workshop, we’ll explore how to approach difficult subjects with care, using writing as both a tool for release and a means of transformation. Through guided prompts, conversation, and a communal space of support, we will write around our wounds—honoring them without being consumed by them.
Suggested $10 donation (Half of proceeds support La Gente!) & for audiences 18+

📖 Book Talk (Moderated by Jamai Fisher) | 3:30 - 4:30pm
Free & open to all!
“What is the opposite of a suicide note? An affirmation?” – Genesis Renji

Opposite of a Suicide Note
is the second book by author Mikey Cody Apollo. Complimented by Xeroine Illustration’s visual art and the photography of Sptmbrborn, this poetry collection also serves as a visually stunning collaboration between Milwaukee creatives. Brave, tender, and unashamed, Opposite of a Suicide Note is a love letter to existence in all its messy, glorious complexity.

About the Author: Mikey Murry, also known as Mikey Cody Apollo, is a Black queer filmmaker, writer, performing artist, and facilitator hailing from the vibrant city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is the author of "Black Girls, Silence, and Other Things Made of Gold" and "Opposite of a Suicide Note." Beyond their literary achievements, Mikey is a devoted cat mama, a fearless PMDD Warrior, and an outspoken advocate for sex-positive feminism. Looking to the future, Mikey dreams of making history as the first Black woman to receive an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

About the Moderator: A Los Angeles native, a poet, and a filmmaker, Jamai Fisher seeks to walk in God's purpose by making hard conversations easy through storytelling.
